An unexpected discovery
While watching one of the old Columbo episodes, “Ransom for a Dead Man”, I noticed a painting hanging on the wall behind the famous detective in a sequence some 20 minutes before the end. After freeze-framing, there was no doubt: it was a painting by Charles d’Entraygues entitled “Concert pour enfants de chœur avec chien” (Concert for church children with a dog). This painting seems not to have left the United States, since a search enabled me to discover that it had been sold at auction in September 2018 at “Hughes Auctions”.
So, our Ecouen painters are finding themselves where we least expect them!”
