A new discovery!
A resident of Domont, which is a city next to Ecouen, contacted us. She indicated she was in possession of a painting bequeathed to her by her grandmother that could be of interest to us.
We agreed for a meeting.
I discovered an oil painting in good shape. It depicted an already old Mrs. Duverger who is the wife of the artist Théophile Emmanuel Duverger (1821-1898). In the painting, she is facing Mrs Dargelas her daughter in law and wife of the painter André Dargelas (1828-1906).
Between the two ladies is a little girl. She is the grandmother of the current owner of this painting. She was an employee of the Duverger family and received this painting as a gift. It has since then been kept in her family.
It’s an object of great value for our association since we are always searching for evidences of the people who gave Ecouen its renown in the XIXe century.
This art piece was completed by Emmanuel Duverger (1821-1898) circa 1895.
The painting will be visible during the exhibition “The painters of Ecouen in private collections” taking place in the “Manoir des tourelles” from March 29th to April 23rd. This is thanks for the kindness of its current owner.
